JOE PICKS A WINNER: PC GAMING

Sam & Max: Season One
So glad that Lucas Arts put out another in this series. This sequel to Sam & Max Hit the Road came out in 2007, 14 years after the original, but surely worth the wait. It's like spending time with dear old friends.
My initial attraction to the digital world was with computer games. I was fascinated with what was being done with computers in those days of Zork, Sierra's King's Quest Series, the funny Sam and Max games by Lucas Arts, and the list goes on.
Here's a dozen of my favorites, and a special

Get the King's Quest Collection 1-7+King's Quest VI
Offered in this package as part of a collection, Sierra's King's Quest 6 was the first full "talkie" I played, and deservedly still ranks high. Professional voice actors, clever puzzles, good plot, and a big dose of humor make for an experience you'll want to live again and again.
Gabriel Knight Sins of the FathersGabriel Knight Sins of the Fathers
Another great adventure game from Sierra. Set in New Orleans mixing Voodo and Germanic themes, Gabriel Knight was another full talkie, and one of the most sophisticated PC games of its time.
Monty Python's Looney BinMonty Python's Looney Bin
Two award winning games in one package. Complete Waste of Time and The Quest for the Holy Grail

Gamer or not, if you're a Monty Python fan at all, you will be thoroughly entertained.
Twinsen's OdysseyTwinsen's Odyssey
If I were hard-pressed, Twinsen's Odyssey would take the prize for the one best adventure game ever.
Good story, fantastic characters, lush settings, challenging game play, engaging music, humor, and just a smidgen of violence make Twinsen's Odyssey a blue ribbon winner.
Buy Caesar III for under $30Caesar III
Hours of play in this ancient Roman city-building sim. Wonderfully detailed structures grow with the passage of time. You're in control trying to keep it all from falling apart. If you enjoy a challenge, but not shoot-em-up style game play, a sim like Caesar III is for you.
Award winning The Longest JourneyThe Longest Journey
One of the last great adventure games. Year 2000's multiple award winning Adventure Game of the Year. Starts out kind of slow, but if you stick with it, by the end you'll wish The Longest Journey was even longer, still!

Death Angel
Police Quest 2 — The Vengeance
Police Quest 3 — The Kindred

The NeverhoodThe Neverhood
One of the most unique games ever. The whole game uses claymation for scenes and characters. The Neverhood is hard to come by these days, but a classic that shouldn't be missed! Not much dialogue here, but you'll love the soundtrack.
Bad Mojo ReduxBad Mojo: Redux
In Grim Fandango you play a grim reaper. That's a little higher up the food chain compared to the cockroach you maneuver in Bad Mojo! Awfully strange, yet awfully beautiful to look at, this game crawls to a different drummer. Stay off the flypaper!
Grim FandangoGrim Fandango
Where do these game designers come up with these ideas? In Grim Fandango, all the characters are dead, and the hero is a grim reaper! I'd say maybe just a little on the quirky side, but guaranteed loads of fun!
Buy Lucas Arts' Full ThrottleFull Throttle
By today's graphic standards, this game may seem crude. However, it's another quality work from Lucas Arts that was all the rage in its day. After all, The Flinstones are a little crude by today's animation standards, but that doesn't keep us from enjoying the show.

Getting these classic games to play on Windows XP or Vista

In some cases, it's just a matter of changing the game's .exe file properties to make it compatible with Windows 95.

But you may also need an emulator called DOSBox, a free download. Once DOSBox is installed on your desktop, you can just drag the game's .exe file onto the DOSBox desktop icon, and your game should begin. There's tons of more information at the DOSBox site.
